President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Trichy on Wednesday to participate in the convocation ceremony of the Central University of Tamil Nadu, Tiruvarur.
She was received at Trichy Airport by Governor RN Ravi, state ministers KN Nehru and Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, along with senior officials. From there, she travelled to Tiruvarur by helicopter to attend the ceremony. Later in the evening, she will visit the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Srirangam for darshan.
During her Tamil Nadu visit, the President has been emphasising the role of the banking sector in empowering farmers, strengthening rural economies, and supporting MSMEs. Speaking at the 120th foundation day of City Union Bank in Chennai on Tuesday, she said banks must act as “active partners in building a developed India,” highlighting opportunities from start-ups to smart cities.
She also underlined challenges that persist in terms of digital literacy, internet access, and financial awareness, despite progress made through initiatives such as payment banks and digital wallets.
President Murmu’s visit to Karnataka and Tamil Nadu (September 1–3, 2025) also included addressing the diamond jubilee celebrations of the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH) in Mysuru on September 1.
